 Thumbnail images are used to speed up the web-page loading process. WHen you access a webpage with images, the images increases the amount of time required for the page to load for viewing. By creating a thumbnail (small) version, we can load several images at once without slowing down the loading process of a page. This is especially important for viewers who are accessing the internet through dial up connections.
